Any extra current is diverted safely to the ground through the ground wire. The explosion connection remains in an inactive state until a voltage that is excessive compared to a standard one triggers it to direct extra current to the ground during the extra wire. This prevents excessive current from flowing into your house appliances thus protecting them from harm.
